PhAST 2004

In 2004, the CLEO/IQEC co-sponsors launched PhAST, a collocated conference focused on Photonic, Applications, Systems and Technologies, and were met with much success. In this, its inaugural year, PhAST boasted 758 technical attendees, 70 papers and 3 parallel sessions. Content focused on the timely topics of Lasers in Manufacturing and Photonics in Homeland and National Security, with special symposia on BioPhotonics Instrumentation, Photonics in Nanotechnology and Commercialization in Semiconductor Photonics. Special events, including the sold-out "Lunch with Industry Leaders," rounded out the technical program and provided a business perspective on directions for the industry. Innovation Presentations revealed hot new products and featured novel technologies from the exhibiting community, and the Innovation Award Winner, Crystal Fibre, was recognized by peers for achievements in air-clad photonic crystal fibers and high power single-mode lasers.

Revealing significant programming and up-to-the-minute information for the applications and engineering communities, PhAST had a strong introduction this year.
